Title: When He’s Torn
Series/World: Olympus Pride #4
Couple/Pairing: Bailey (mink shifter) & Deke (pallas cat shifter)
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐¾ (4.7/5)

The Main Characters
Bailey is exactly the kind of heroine you either instantly love—or don’t quite know what to do with at first. She’s blunt, unbothered, a little chaotic, and honestly… maybe just a tiny bit unhinged (in the best way 😄). But underneath that blasé attitude is someone shaped by her past in ways that make her guarded and deeply complex.
Deke is your classic alpha—but with depth. He’s direct, sometimes bordering on rude, but there’s a steadiness to him that balances Bailey perfectly. He’s been lingering in the background in previous books, and finally getting his full story felt satisfying. His dynamic with Bailey? Unexpectedly perfect.
About the Author
Suzanne Wright is basically the queen of addictive shifter romance at this point. If you’ve read one of her series, you already know her formula—strong alpha males, sharp-tongued heroines, found family vibes, danger, and heat. And somehow… it still works every time.
My Thoughts About the Book
This was such a fun, fast-paced read. At around 283 pages, it’s one of those books you can easily get lost in for a few hours and come out smiling.
Yes, it follows a familiar Suzanne Wright formula—but if you’ve been reading her books since 2014 like I have, that familiarity feels more like comfort than repetition.
The banter? Perfect. And honestly, this quote perfectly captures the energy between Bailey and Deke:
“No, stop being difficult.”
“I can’t. Your frustration warms the coldest parts of my soul.”
That right there is them. Sharp, playful, slightly chaotic, and completely entertaining.
The side characters are well-developed, and while a few villains feel a bit templated, it doesn’t take away from the overall experience.
Bailey absolutely stole the show for me from she was first introduced. She’s funny, guarded, and just unpredictable enough to keep things interesting. Watching her layers unfold—especially when it comes to her past and her very unique way of thinking—gave the story more depth than I expected.
Deke, on the other hand, balances her perfectly. Their relationship wasn’t rushed, which I appreciated. This wasn’t an instant, effortless connection—they had to work through things, understand each other, and slowly build something real.
And yes… I kept hoping for that true mates moment to snap into place. Because that trope? I will never get tired of it.
Almost Perfect… Except
A few of the side characters and villains felt a little too familiar—like they were pulled from a template and expanded just enough to fit the story.
And if you’ve read Suzanne Wright before, you’ll recognize some recurring elements:
- Sudden bursts of violence
- Interfering exes or wannabe lovers
- Interrogation scenes that get intense
- That one character who turns out to be secretly unhinged
But at this point, it’s part of the experience—and honestly, still entertaining.
Favorite Quote
“No, stop being difficult.”
“I can’t. Your frustration warms the coldest parts of my soul.”
What I love about this quote is how perfectly it captures Bailey’s personality and the dynamic between her and Deke. It’s playful, a little chaotic, and just the right amount of unhinged—in a way that makes you laugh and lean in at the same time. That line isn’t just funny; it shows how comfortable Bailey is being exactly who she is, and how Deke, despite himself, is completely drawn to it. Their connection isn’t overly polished or soft—it’s sharp, teasing, and real, which makes moments like this stand out even more.
Final Thoughts
This book delivered exactly what I wanted—fun, action, chemistry, and characters I genuinely enjoyed.
The mystery surrounding who’s targeting Bailey and causing problems for Deke added just enough intrigue without overshadowing the romance. And I loved that their relationship stayed strong throughout—no unnecessary drama, just steady growth and connection.
Bailey and Deke turned out to be such a perfect match, and watching their dynamic unfold was easily the highlight of the book.
Add in familiar faces from previous books, and you get that comforting “coming home” feeling that makes this series so addictive.
Another win from Suzanne Wright—and honestly, I don’t think there’s a book of hers I wouldn’t enjoy.
If you enjoyed Deke’s story, you’ll definitely want to check out my review of When He’s Sinful, where things get just as intense with another unforgettable pairing.
And don’t miss my thoughts on When He’s Ruthless—book 4 in the series with strong characters, high tension, and a romance that keeps you hooked from start to finish.
Heat & Mood: 🔥🔥🔥
Playful, steamy, action-packed with light tension
Would I recommend it?
Absolutely—especially if you love paranormal romance with witty banter, strong personalities, and a little chaos mixed in.

If it’s not intense, emotional, and a little dangerous… was it even worth reading?
