When He Dares Book Review

Book: When He Dares

Series/World: Olympus Pride Series, Book 6
Couple/Pairing: Quinley (Black-foot cat shifter) & Isaiah (Pallas cat shifter)
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐¾ (4.7/5)

The Main Characters

Quinley is one of those characters you don’t fully expect to love as much as you do—but then she quietly steals every scene. She’s labeled as submissive, unranked, and “less than” by her former pride… but don’t let that fool you. There’s a quiet strength in her that runs deep. She’s nurturing, emotionally intuitive, and steady in a way that feels rare—but when she needs to stand her ground? She does. And she does it her way.

Isaiah, on the other hand, is dominant, protective, and intense—but not in an overpowering way. He respects Quinley in a way she’s never experienced before, and that alone makes their dynamic hit differently. He sees her. And once he does? He doesn’t let go.

Together, they just… work. Effortlessly. Naturally. Like two people who finally found what they didn’t even realize they were missing.

About the Author

If you’ve read anything by Suzanne Wright, then you already know—she doesn’t miss.

This book just solidified something I already knew after reading Feral Sins: I will forever read anything she writes. Her ability to balance humor, danger, emotional depth, and seriously addictive chemistry is unmatched. You can read Feral Sins review here.

My Thoughts About the Book

This story hooked me from the start, but what really made it stand out was the emotional foundation.

Both Quinley and Isaiah were rejected by their true mates—well Isaiah wasn’t rejected…let’s say she was already attached. So instead of giving us bitterness or dragging heartbreak, we get something more layered… two people choosing each other anyway.

And honestly? That made their bond feel stronger.

Their arranged mating could have felt forced—but it didn’t. Not even a little. Because from the beginning, there was honesty. Vulnerability. Chemistry.

And the chemistry? Whew.

Isaiah’s dominance paired with Quinley’s receptive nature created some seriously 🔥🔥🔥 moments. But what I loved most is that her submissiveness never translated to weakness. She’s confident, grounded, and emotionally powerful—and Isaiah respects that.

Also… can we talk about the shifter dynamics?

Black-foot cats? Tiny but absolutely ruthless. I loved that contrast. The idea that something small can still be deadly—and underestimated—parallels Quinley perfectly.

Then you layer in:

  • A dangerous new enemy
  • Isaiah’s internal struggle with his faithed mate
  • Quinley’s ex true mate suddenly reappearing

…and the tension just keeps building.

I genuinely couldn’t put this one down.

Almost Perfect… Except

If I had to nitpick, it would be this:

Isaiah’s hesitation—especially from his cat—felt a little dragged out at times. I understood the emotional reasoning behind it, but there were moments where I just wanted him to fully claim what was right in front of him a bit sooner.

Still… when he gets there? Worth it.

Favorite Quote

“You stabbed one in the heart? Awesome for you. But they’d live. You set one on fire? Brave of you. But they’d survive. You drowned one in acid? Highly sadistic—and messed up. But they’d still live to tell the tale.”

This quote perfectly captures the brutal humor of the Olympus Pride world. It highlights just how hard shifters are to kill while also showing Suzanne Wright’s signature sarcastic dialogue. Funny, dark, slightly chaotic—and honestly, that’s exactly the vibe of this series.

Final Thoughts

This book gave me everything I love in a Suzanne Wright story—strong characters, real emotional growth, humor, danger, and chemistry that builds naturally.

Quinley and Isaiah weren’t about fate forcing them together—they were about choice. And that made their story hit deeper.

It was also so good seeing familiar faces again while being introduced to new dynamics and threats within the world.

This is absolutely one I’d reread.

Love hard, read harder—and always choose the wild ones.
