Lover Unbound: A Wild Ride with Ward’s Vampires
By J.R. Ward
Rating: π π ππ(4/5 stars)
If you’ve been following J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series, you know these books are like the literary equivalent of indulging in a giant box of sexy chocolatesβyou can’t get enough! And speaking of indulgence, let’s dive into Lover Unbound. This fifth installment throws us into the complex world of Vishous, a vampire with more baggage than a seasoned traveler at an airport.
In this book, you’ll find everything you expect from Ward’s Brotherhood: sexy vampires, steamy love scenes, epic battles, and a dash of humor. But let’s get real, shall we? A few things made me raise an eyebrow, and I’m not just talking about Vishous’ high-tech hand.
My Thoughts on the Book
Let’s talk about Vishous, our brooding and brilliant techie vampire. It’s time to address the elephantβor, in this case, the studβin the room. The romantic pairing in Lover Unbound had me doing double takes. Vishous and Jane… really? Jane is no slouch, but it’s like pairing fine wine with fast food. Don’t get me wrong; we love Jane for her spunk and smarts, but let’s be honest: Vishous needed someone who could match his intensity and techno-geekiness. For me, the chemistry wasn’t quite there, and it left me feeling like something was missing. I waited so long for Vishous’ book, so to say I was disappointed is an understatement. Despite these quirks of mine, there’s plenty to love about Lover Unbound. Ward’s writing style is as addictive as ever, and she knows how to weave a good story. The banter between the brothers is razor-sharp, and the action sequences are thrilling. Plus, you can’t forget about the steamy, smexy scenes.
In my opinion, Vishous might not have found the perfect mate in this book. Still, you’ll find yourself falling in love with the camaraderie among the Brotherhood.
Oh, and let’s not forget about the secondary characters. Phury, who is Zsadist’s twin and has his own internal battles, adds a layer of depth to the story.
Final Thoughts
While J.R. Ward didn’t exactly hit a home run with Jane’s transformation into a ghost and Vishous’s romantic match, the book still delivers the action, humor, and sensuality that fans of the series have come to crave. Lover Unbound is a wild ride, and despite my quibbles about Jane and Vishous, it’s worth every page-turn.
So, if you’re ready for another wild ride in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, buckle up, my fellow Black Dagger Brotherhood enthusiasts, and enjoy the thrills and chills with Vishous and the rest of the warriors.
